Trust for the National Mall Officially Cuts Ribbon with Partners and National Mall Volunteers at Information Kiosks Near Veterans Memorials

HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION, CLARK CONSTRUCTION, Helmets to Hardhats, National Park Service Join official unveiling of restored and renovated information booths on the national mall

On Friday, November 18, 2022, the Trust for the National Mall was joined by the National Park Service, the Home Depot, Clark Construction and Helmets to Hardhats to officially unveil the restored information kiosks after months of dedicated work and care from over 100 volunteers, and support from our corporate donors.

Volunteers spent over 800 combined hours of service to take create a safer, more comfortable work area for volunteers and rangers to serve the public, including the installation of new flooring, a fresh coat of paint, new amenities, storage and a thorough cleaning. Their efforts helped the Trust for the National Mall bring the kiosks into their current shining state near the Lincoln Memorial.

Volunteers and rangers at both kiosks were excited to officially cut the ribbon on these critical structures on the National Mall, which serve as an informational gateway to the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Volunteers at the kiosks provide name-location services for the families of veterans and assist visitors with accessibility needs. National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent Jeff Reinbold welcomed the group to the newly renovated kiosks and pointed out the sheer amount of foot traffic that passes near and to the information booths as visitors seek information services near these infamous veterans’ memorials.

Trust for the National Mall CEO and President Catherine Townsend shared in the excitement of the restoration with Jared Oldroyd, Senior Vice President at Clark Construction, Brian Gamberini from The Home Depot and Robert Schwartz from Helmets to Hardhats as all remarked on the incredible effort and the skilled labor and service of those who contributed to the boots-on-the-ground restoration.

After the ribbon-cutting at the Korean War Veterans Information Kiosk, the group moved over to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for a second ribbon-cutting and to honor Annmarie Emmet, one of the longest-serving volunteers on the National Mall and Vietnam War Veterans Memorial and a previous Trust for the National Mall History, Heroes & Hope Award honoree.

The Trust works to preserve and restore crucial infrastructure on the National Mall, like the information kiosks, with your generous support. Thank you!
