WHAT: Former servicemembers and volunteers on the National Mall will join in a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially unveil the renovated, restored, and repainted information kiosks on the National Mall in recognition of our nation’s military veterans during the month of November. The kiosks—the green-topped buildings near the Korean War Veterans and Vietnam War Veterans Memorials utilized by the National Park Service rangers, volunteers, and staff—recently underwent transformative and extensive repairs via the efforts of 150+ volunteers from the Home Depot, Clark Construction and Helmets to Hardhats. Now, National Mall volunteers who staff the kiosks, many of whom are veterans themselves, can safely and more efficiently assist the millions of visitors to the memorials that honor servicemembers on the National Mall.
The Trust for the National Mall will join with the National Park Service, Clark Construction, Home Depot, and Helmets to Hardhats to present the kiosks to the veterans and volunteers who help families of fallen servicemembers in navigating the memorials and finding the names of their loved ones at the memorials built to honor their service.
Volunteers will gather in front of the kiosks, which flank both sides of Lincoln Memorial Plaza, with representatives from the National Park Service, the Trust for the National Mall, Clark Construction, and Home Depot to celebrate the work, thank the National Mall volunteers, and take part in a ribbon cutting and photo opportunity.
