Veterans Day at the World War II Memorial

Friends of the National World War II Memorial and the National Park Service will co-host a special Veterans Day observance at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. As part of the ceremony, World War II veterans will place wreaths at the Memorial’s Freedom Wall, paying tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters. This moving tradition stands as a powerful reminder of the price of freedom and the enduring legacy of the Greatest Generation. Register here.
Bells of Peace Ceremony at the National World War I Memorial

The Doughboy Foundation will sponsor the annual Bells of Peace Ceremony at The National World War I Memorial in Washington, DC, located on Pennsylvania Ave between 14th and 15th streets. The ceremony is free and open to the public, or can be watched via livestream. Bells of Peace commemorates the end of World War I and honors the 4.7 million Americans who donned the uniform and the 116,516 who lost their lives in that conflict. November 11 is now Veterans Day, a day to recognize all military Veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Originally called Armistice Day, the date marked the end of hostilities in WWI and is observed as Remembrance Day in other countries. View the livestream or learn more.

Veterans Day Wreath Laying Ceremony at the United States Navy Memorial

Commemorate Veterans Day virtually or in-person at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. for a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans. Featuring the United States Navy Band and the United States Ceremonial Guard, this annual event brings together veterans, families, active-duty service members, and the community to pay tribute to all who have worn the nation’s uniform. Located just steps from the National Mall, the Navy Memorial is proud to host this public ceremony as part of its ongoing mission to honor, recognize, and celebrate the men and women of the Sea Services. Civil War Washington Forts: An Interpretive Hike of Civil War Defenses of Washington

Join Ford’s Theatre for this free educational opportunity exploring the Civil War defenses of Washington, D.C. When the Civil War broke out, Washington, D.C. was surrounded by slave-holding states and confederate sympathizers. In the summer of 1861, 68 forts were hastily built to defend this city. These forts remain part of our city today. The 2-mile outdoor hike will take educators from Fort DeRussy to Fort Stevens. Register here.
