Statement from Catherine Townsend, President & CEO

The Trust was saddened by the vandalism of the World War II Memorial, one of our nation's most revered places of remembrance that honors the courage and sacrifice of the Greatest Generation. We are grateful to the National Park Service for its swift restoration efforts and to the United States Park Police for its investigation and efforts to identify those responsible. 

Protecting the National Mall's monuments and memorials is a shared responsibility, and the Trust remains committed to preserving these enduring symbols of service, sacrifice, and democracy for generations to come.

The Trust is proud to partner with the National Park Service, Friends of the World War II Memorial, and veteran organizations to care for the memorial and honor the veterans and families who visit it each year, including through the Volunteers-in-Parks program.
