First Anniversary of the U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center

CelebratING the First anniversary of the u.s. Park police horse stables and WELLS FARGO education center

Now celebrating one-year on the National Mall! On Friday, June 14th, the Trust for the National Mall, the National Park Service and the U.S. Park Police welcomed the public to help mark the anniversary of the ribbon-cutting of the restored U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and brand-new Wells Fargo Education Center. Hundreds of visitors joined us for a special open house at the Education Center and a meet-and-greet with the Mounted Unit’s beloved horses and officers. Volunteers and the Trust team joined the celebration by teaching visitors about the very popular horses that call the stables home, treating visitors to special anniversary cookies and inviting them to sign an anniversary card for the horses!

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the Trust led the transformation of the horse stables, creating a state-of-the-art home for the horses and the Mounted Unit in partnership with the National Park Service and the United States Park Police. Importantly, the project created a brand-new Education Center which, for the first time, invites the public inside to learn about the history of the Mounted Unit on the National Mall. Construction also included the creation of a “Path of Hope,” providing a safe and accessible pathway linking the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial directly to the Lincoln Memorial. This project was designed, built and led by the Trust for the National Mall. This project was also made possible entirely by private philanthropy, thanks to supporters including Wells Fargo and Campaign Chair Sheila Johnson, Founder and CEO of the Salamander Collection and Vice-Chair of the Trust for the National Mall Board of Directors.

The open house was attended by tourists, local visitors, families, and large school groups from D.C. Public Schools. Visitors and students were delighted to pet the horses, speak to the officers and learn about the Mounted Unit inside of the Education Center. The Trust for the National Mall is grateful to be able to provide educational opportunities like these to visitors and the local community.

Plan your visit today! The Education Center is open Thursday through Sunday, 9 AM to 3 PM.
