Honoring Veterans on the National Mall
Honoring Veterans on the National Mall
The National Mall honors veterans and their service and sacrifice 365 days of the year. Veterans Day is a particularly reverential and meaningful day of community and gratitude.
On Monday, November 11th, veterans, including World War II servicemembers, Honor Flights, veteran families, volunteers, students and visitors from around the world took part in special ceremonies across the National Mall at the memorials built to honor military service and sacrifice.
Thank you to our many volunteers, many of whom are veterans themselves, who welcomed and educated visiting veterans and veteran families on the National Mall. This Veterans Day, nearly 40 of our Volunteers-in-Parks (VIP) Volunteers served for almost 200 hours at five special memorial sites.
We also welcomed a special student group – an opportunity for the next generation to meet the Greatest Generation. Thank you to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Civics Bee finalists from across the nation who joined us at the World War II Memorial, where they gave a special welcome to an Honor Flight of Veterans, with personal thank you notes and cheers, and heard stories about their service in war theaters around the world.
Today and every day, thank you veterans for your extraordinary service.
