Statement on National Park Service Announcement of Dr. Kevin Griess to succeed Jeff Reinbold as Superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks
NOVEMBER 18, 2024, WASHINGTON – The Trust for the National Mall today released the following statement by President and CEO Catherine Townsend:
“The Trust for the National Mall is incredibly grateful to Superintendent Jeff Reinbold for five years of visionary leadership and partnership working together with the Trust to restore, preserve and enrich the National Mall, building a legacy that will impact millions of visitors for this and future generations. Our shared success includes the new U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center, the restored Lockkeepers House that now welcomes the public, and the critical restoration of the Tidal Basin seawalls which will be completed in 2026. We look forward to continued collaboration with Jeff as CEO of the National Park Foundation, an important national partner in our work and mission, including the Lincoln Memorial undercroft museum on America’s Front Yard.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Kevin Griess join us as the incoming Superintendent and our partner in restoring, elevating and bringing the National Mall’s iconic monuments and memorials and treasured green spaces to life for all who visit. Kevin’s impressive track record in public sector leadership, his expertise in partnership, and his service as a U.S. military veteran will serve him well in this new role. As we head toward the historic 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026, where the National Mall will be center stage, our shared mission with the National Park Service takes on important relevance and increased visibility. We are honored to have Kevin join us in supporting our mission at this critical time.”
