The camera was upgraded in 2022 as part of the Trust for the National Mall’s partnership with EarthCam. Thanks to a specially designed camera, you can enjoy 24/7 views, including sunrise and sunset, over the National Mall in high resolution. The device sits inside a secret, 3" diameter hole that was drilled by engineers in 2011 when they needed climbers to rappel down and inspect the structure following earthquake damage. Now millions of viewers across the world can peer out through the tiny aperture and watch the grand fireworks LIVE, from anywhere in the world.
