Over One Hundred Volunteers Take to the National Mall in Celebration of National Public Lands Day

Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits.

Each year, the National Mall has over 36 million visits and 4,000 permitted events, making it the most visited National Park in the country. With this level of use, volunteers on the National Mall play a vital role in helping the National Park Service maintain and preserve America’s Front Yard. Volunteer work on the National Mall saves the National Park Service nearly $1 million in labor costs.

In celebration of National Public Lands Day 2019, the Trust for the National Mall proudly welcomed 5 corporate teams to America's Front Yard to roll up their sleeves and dig in to several maintenance projects on the National Mall. The Trust is grateful for the support of these steadfast partners doing their part to make the National Mall a cleaner, more beautiful space:

National Public Lands Day is organized annually by the National Environmental Education Foundation, in cooperation with Department of the Interior, Department of the Army, and Department of Agriculture. The National Park Service is one of the event’s largest providers of sites and volunteers. The Trust for the National Mall is proud to be a part of these efforts this year, and for years to come!
