Dwight D. Eisenhower Birthday Commemorative Concert
Dwight D. Eisenhower Birthday Commemorative Concert
As the sun set on the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial, the Trust for the National Mall, National Park Service, U.S. Army Band “Pershing's Own” Brass Quintet helped celebrate what would have been President and General Eisenhower’s 134th birthday.
Special guest Susan Eisenhower—President Eisenhower’s granddaughter and a noted policy leader and author—delivered remarks about her grandfather’s legacy, hitting on themes of unity and peace.
“The most moving thing to me about this Memorial is that Ike is not alone. There are so many other statues of famous presidents and figures in Washington standing all by themselves...I like this. This is the way my grandfather would have liked it. He was part of a team. He led the team but the team produced the result”
-- Susan Eisenhower.
The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” Brass Quintet performed a rousing set of songs that included classics from the Eisenhower era and some newer favorites...along with Happy Birthday! The event also featured Ike-themed treats and buttons and tours of the Memorial by our VIPs — our Volunteers-in-Parks team with the National Park Service who are experts in welcoming and guiding visitors at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial and at sites across the National Mall. Learn more about our Volunteers-in-Parks Program here.
Thanks to all who joined us in helping to celebrate President and General Eisenhower’s legacy. The Trust helps care for, maintain and activate the Eisenhower Memorial in partnership with NPS.
