Celebrating America's 250th at the Horse Stables and Education Center
Celebrating AMERICA’s 250th AT THE HORSE STABLES ON THE NATIONAL MALL
The Trust for the National Mall and its partners at the National Park Service and the U.S. Park Police hosted an Open House celebrating the U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and Wells Fargo Education Center, the first project that the Trust and NPS delivered on the National Mall inspired by America's 250th anniversary.
Visitors had an opportunity to meet the horses of the Mounted Unit, learn about and officially sign up to join the Trust and NPS’ MALLSTAR volunteer program for America’s 250th, and tour the Horse Stables Education Center exhibits. Trust team members were also on site to share a demonstration of the National Mall Gateway — the Trust and NPS’s popular new digital learning platform that invites visitors and explorers to plan their visit and plot their tour on the Mall, and experience the history and stories behind the monuments and memorials — whether visiting in person or virtually from around the globe.
Earlier in the day, the Trust was also honored to host its partners from NPS, the U.S. Park Police and generous supporters of the Horse Stables and Education Center for a tour of the facility and exhibits celebrating America’s 250th and the generous donors who made this groundbreaking project possible. Special guests and project supporters included Wells Fargo, represented by Georgette “Gigi” Dixon, Head of External Engagement, The Phos Foundation, The Suzanne and Glenn Youngkin Family Foundation, represented by Suzanne Youngkin, and the Jerry Taylor and Nancy Bryant Foundation, represented by Nancy Bryant. National Park Service Superintendent Kevin Griess, Chief of the U.S. Park Police Scott Brecht, and Head of the Mounted Unit Lt. Kenneth Leonas also joined us for this special celebration at the Stables.
In 2023, the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service unveiled the new Horse Stables and Wells Fargo Education Center on the National Mall. The Trust led this transformational project to replace and upgrade the original horse stables built in the 1970’s and to create the new Education Center in partnership with the National Park Service and the United States Park Police Mounted Unit. This exciting project was designed and built by the Trust for the National Mall and entirely funded by private philanthropy, thanks to its generous supporters. Learn more and plan your visit.
