Boy Scouts of America Celebrate National Public Lands Day on the Mall

Each year, the National Mall has over 35 million visits and 3,000 permitted events, making it the most visited National Park in the country. With this level of use, volunteers on the National Mall play a vital role in helping the National Park Service maintain and preserve America’s Front Yard. Volunteer work on the National Mall saves the National Park Service nearly $1 million in labor costs.

On September 22, the National Environmental Education Foundation celebrated the 25th annual National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. The Trust for the National Mall proudly welcomed 400 troop members from the Boy Scouts of America to the National Mall to roll up their sleeves and dig in to several maintenance projects on the Mall including river clean up, painting park benches, spreading mulch and more.
