Matthew Shay is President & CEO of the National Retail Federation (NRF). NRF is the world’s largest retail trade association and represents a diverse industry that includes global giants and all segments of retail. This includes general merchandise and department stores, luxury brands and home improvement, wholesale clubs and ecommerce platforms, grocery stores and chain restaurants, small businesses and independent retailers. Shay serves as the chief advocate for an industry that supports more than 55 million U.S. jobs and contributes $5.3 trillion to annual GDP. Since joining NRF in 2010, he has transformed the organization into a powerful voice in Washington and beyond. He has also reimagined NRF’s operations to reflect the global nature of retail, launching new programs in Asia-Pacific and Europe to reach a global audience. Shay created new partnerships with CNBC and Georgetown University to deliver timely and accurate data on retail sales and to build a sustainable platform for education and research for the next generation of retail leaders and entrepreneurs. He is a frequent commentator on business networks and major media outlets, and continues to play a key role in reshaping the narrative around retail’s digital transformation and multichannel future.
