WASHINGTON (April 22, 2026) — The Trust for the National Mall’s signature spring gala, AMERICA’S BALL for THE MALL, on May 7, will serve as the grand kickoff to America’s 250th on the National Mall. It will celebrate the mission of the Trust and the National Park Service, honor two luminaries with the 2026 History, Heroes & Hope Awards and feature the presentation of a surprise custom adapted vehicle to a U.S. Army veteran injured in the line of duty.
Against the backdrop of the U.S. Capitol Building and the Washington Monument, the Trust will present its 2026 History, Heroes & Hope Awards during the BALL to:
Elana Meyers Taylor, 2026 U.S. Gold medalist in Bobsled, 6-time Olympic medalist and the most decorated Black athlete in Winter Olympic history, who tells the story of resilience, reinvention, historic achievement and a relentless pursuit of gold nearly two decades in the making.
The Gary Sinise Foundation, established by award-winning actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, the organization works to honor America’s defenders, veterans, first responders and families of fallen heroes by building custom homes for severely wounded heroes, supporting the families of our fallen, providing essential equipment and training for first responders and improving the mental wellness of our defenders.
