“You may have read the news about the vandalism last evening on the National Mall. The Trust for the National Mall is dismayed by the unfortunate act of vandalism at the Washington Monument, one of the most recognizable and enduring symbols of our nation.

The Trust is grateful for our partners at the National Park Service and their trained, professional staff for working quickly to fully restore the Washington Monument's historic marble facade. At the Trust for the National Mall, we work with the National Park Service every day to protect and preserve this treasured space.

This incident is a reminder of our collective, shared responsibility to respect and care for the symbols of American democracy on the National Mall and of the importance of the Trust's work to educate the public about our mission to protect this iconic American space.”
