Trust for the National Mall Unveils the Restored German-American Friendship Garden with Partners and Supporters
On April 29, 2022, the Trust for the National Mall, the German Embassy and the National Park Service officially unveiled the restored German-American Friendship Garden to a crowd of partners and project supporters, including Volkswagen Group of America. The Trust was joined by special guest speakers; German Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Ricklef Beutin, Volkswagen Group of America CEO Scott Keogh, National Park Service Superintendent for the National Mall Jeff Reinbold, and Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan, Acting Assistant Secretary of State, along with the United States Air Force Band. Trust partner Lidl generously provided a food truck on-site to hand out German-themed fare to the crowd and visitors on the National Mall under perfect sunny skies. The ceremony went out with a splash when our speakers joined together to push the ceremonial button that turned on the newly restored fountains, a centerpiece of the historic garden. Afterwards, guests boarded a Big Bus for a quick tour of the National Mall and to head over to the German-American Heritage Museum to enjoy a reception with German-themed refreshments and hors d'oeuvres and to celebrate the Trust’s work with its many partners to restore and enhance the German-American Friendship Garden on the National Mall.
