#BLOOMCAM.ORG IS NOW LIVE -- VIEWERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD CAN EXPERIENCE PEAK BLOOM FROM ANYWHERE
LIVE Streaming Camera Shares View of Cherry Blossoms on the Tidal Basin
(WASHINGTON) – The Trust for the National Mall and National Cherry Blossom Festival are thrilled to announce #BloomCam is now LIVE, featuring a bird’s eye view of Washington’s grandest springtime tradition from high above the Tidal Basin. Viewers from around the world can tune in LIVE to watch the beloved cherry trees on the National Mall bloom in real time. The National Park Service announced its prediction that this year’s peak bloom will fall between March 28th and 31st.
Each year, nearly a million people in countries around the world take in this monumental view on #BloomCam, the LIVE streaming camera located at the top of the Salamander Hotel DC, is provided in partnership with the National Park Service and EarthCam.
“The blooming of Washington D.C.’s cherry blossoms ushers in the arrival of spring around the world and symbolizes hope, renewal, peace, and friendship. So many people have meaningful memories connected to this annual tradition.” explains Catherine Townsend, President & CEO of the Trust for the National Mall. “While visiting BloomCam.org, visitors can monitor the blooms from anywhere! And they can learn about our Adopt a Cherry Tree campaign that helps the National Park Service care for these ionic trees to ensure they bloom for generations to come,” Townsend adds.
The goal of #BloomCam is to build awareness and a wider community of support for the long-term care and upkeep of the more than 3,500 cherry trees on the National Mall. Facing the effects of an urban setting and impact from the millions who visit each year, the trees, first planted in 1912 on the Tidal Basin, need care and attention now more than ever.
The Trust, in partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, is working to raise $3.7 million through its Adopt a Cherry Tree Campaign. The campaign invites the public to donate to help the National Park Service ensure the iconic trees are properly cared for and maintained for the next generation.
This spring, the National Cherry Blossom Festival is spotlighting the Adopt a Cherry Tree Campaign, welcoming visitors to support the trees by making a donation. The National Cherry Blossom Festival Board of Directors has pledged that it will match the first $25,000 raised through this fundraising campaign this season. People can visit https://www.bloomcam.org/ncbf25 to donate to this campaign and have their gift matched.
“As I embark on my 25th year with the Festival, I am reflecting on the incredible journey of the Festival since the original gift of the trees in 1912 from Japan, and the millions of amazing people that have been drawn by their beauty, their message of renewal, and the celebration that holds their annual transformation at its center,” said National Cherry Blossom Festival President Diana Mayhew. “I hope that everyone who has a special story about the cherry trees can take this opportunity to give back to support their care.”
This year, the Trust is also tapping a select group of high-profile Ambassadors to help spread the word about its fundraising and awareness-building efforts to support this treasured tradition on the National Mall.
