For the first time ever, the Trust for the National Mall and HUMANA partnered to roll out pickleball courts on the National Mall for three days of match play, community and connection both on and off the courts. From pro picklers to first-timers, this free event had something for all skill levels and all ages.
We were joined by Rob Riggle, Katie Couric, Former White House Chef Andre Rush who was “Cookin’ in the Kitchen”, and the stars of the professional D.C. Pickleball Team. Pickleball competitors from across the region and across the country joined us for match play and excited and slightly nervous contest winners joined Katie Couric and the pros on court for a once in a lifetime experience. The event featured an epic Media Match with teams from 13 DC news bureaus, they brought heat to the court and it ended in a hotly contested battle…with hometown The Washington Post taking home the medals.
Joining us on the court or in the stands was free, but caring for the National Mall is not. We welcome you to make a gift to help care for the monuments, memorials and all 700 acres of the National Mall. You can make a tax-deductible donation here. Your gift will help the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service preserve and elevate this treasured space and bring more engaging events like National Mall of Pickleball to America’s Front Yard.
