A Monumental Conversation with the Governors and First Ladies of Maryland and Virginia
Monumental Conversation: On the Road to 250 features bipartisan dialogue among governors about the national mall
Thank you to all who joined the Trust for the National Mall, last week for a Monumental Conversation: On the Road to 250. As Governor Wes Moore, Governor Glenn Youngkin and the first ladies Dawn Moore and Suzanne S. Youngkin so eloquently shared, the National Mall takes on greater significance as a unifying symbol in our nation as we approach America’s 250th anniversary next year.
The conversation shone a light on the National Mall as a treasured American space and reminded us of our nation’s founding principles and the history that unites us all. We hope you all found the bipartisan dialogue to be as memorable and inspiring as we did. We are so grateful to the governors and first ladies for joining us for this important event.
We would also like to share special gratitude for David M. Rubenstein, a member of the Trust’s National Mall 250 Cabinet and longtime champion for the National Mall, for moderating the conversation with his trademark wit and historical knowledge. Thank you to our presenting sponsor Wells Fargo, a longtime supporter of the Trust for the National Mall.
The Trust is grateful for all who sponsored and joined us in support of our mission with the National Park Service to restore, preserve and elevate America's Front Yard, including Wells Fargo, Meridiam, With Honor Action, Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee Program and Marlene Malek.
We hope you will take time to learn more about the Trust for the National Mall and our work to ensure that this treasured American space inspires, endures and tells the story of our nation for America's 250th, and generations to come. Visit nationalmall250.org, and stay tuned for announcements about the next in our series of Monumental Conversations: On the Road to 250.
Thank you again for joining us. Scroll down for more photos and the video replay of the conversation.
" The beauty of the 250th is not that it is a completion of something; it's a continuation of, arguably, the greatest experiment in the history of the world, which is this country. The idea is that we are bringing people from all over...regardless of backgrounds, that we we're here now as part of a larger mosaic that the whole world looks at and admires.” – Maryland Governor Wes Moore
“When we think about the goal on the National Mall, as we head into this yearlong celebration of America, we also need to recognize that we have to hand the baton to the next generation...and to remind ourselves that...the foundational principles of this nation...were written down but had to be won and defended, foundational principles that each generation inherits from the previous and has to take forward...” – Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin
