Excerpt from March On: Walking in the Footsteps of the March on Washington

The King Family Talks About Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Life and Legacy with then 5-year-old Yolanda Renee King, Granddaughter of Martin Luther King, Jr.

To mark the October 21, 2021 celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the Trust for the National Mall is proud to share exclusive content featuring the King family in intimate conversation about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's life and legacy. The conversation, recorded during the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, includes Martin Luther King III, his wife Arndrea Waters King and their daughter, Yolanda Renee King, who was 5-years old at the time.

This conversation was recorded in 2013 in partnership with StoryCorps. This conversation, along with additional, intergenerational conversations between participants in the original 1963 March and their families will be part of the Trust for the National Mall's upcoming March On program.

March On is a new experiential program currently being developed by the Trust to complement its mission of enriching the visitor experience on America’s Civic Stage. This initiative, launched in 2020, will include content that can be accessed while on the National Mall, and virtually from anywhere in the world. March On will provide the public with an opportunity to "stand in the footsteps" of the leaders and everyday people who, through tireless and inspiring effort, brought about change and shaped the course of America's past, present, and future.
