This month’s Teach 250 invites educators to reflect on the origins of Veterans Day, first commemorated as Armistice Day at the end of World War I. Using the National Mall Gateway, participants will discover creative ways to bring themes of service, sacrifice and citizenship into their classrooms.
In the second session of Teach 250: Inspiring a More Perfect Union, join the National Archives Foundation to support civics education in your classroom. Discover how to bring history to life using primary sources, interactive tools, and classroom-ready resources from the National Archives.
Educators are invited to join the Trust for the National Mall, National Park Service and Destination DC to kick off this year's series of Teach 250: Inspiring a More Perfect Union. In this session, we will show you how to use the Gateway to explore the Lockkeeper’s House, as an example of ways teachers can use the platform in their classroom and to prepare for on-site visits.
At 5 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, Taps will be played in unison at eleven memorials and sites of future memorials that honor those who have made the supreme sacrifice in the service of their country.
A live performance of Ashon T. Crawley’s HOMEGOING, an audiovisual memorial about the impact of the AIDS crisis that centers spirituality as a means of honoring fallen Black queer church musicians, led by the artist and Clifton Ross III (Musical Director), James Johnson (Assistant Musical Director), and Abdul Hamid Robinson-Royal (Lead Musician).
Event is open to the public, advanced registration is encouraged to receive updates. This is an all-ages, family friendly event.
Due to forecasted evening thunderstorms on Saturday, September 9, the live outdoor performance of Ashon T. Crawley’s HOMEGOING on the National Mall is being moved inside to the nearby Church of the Epiphany (1317 G St NW, Washington, DC 20005). The free concert performance is 7:30-9pm, with doors opening at 6:45pm. We encourage attendees to follow COVID precautions and guests are encouraged to wear masks for this indoor performance as they see fit.

A public dialogue on the National Mall facilitated by artist Tiffany Chung with leaders and organizers focusing on the interconnected stories of diverse diasporic refugee and immigrant communities, alongside a mapping workshop to trace participants’ own roots and routes. Event will be held at Constitution Gardens, near Tiffany Chung’s “For the Living” installation.
