photo gallery: Beyond Granite: Pulling Together Opening reception
The Beyond Granite initiative is led by the Trust for the National Mall in partnership with the National Capital Planning Commission and the National Park Service. The initiative is generously funded by the Mellon Foundation. Beyond Granite: Pulling Together is the pilot exhibition of the initiative, curated by Paul Farber and Salamishah Tillet for Monument Lab. It features six extraordinary artists telling six extraordinary stories on the National Mall, America's Civic Stage.
On August 17, 2023, the Trust for the National Mall, project partners, and the visionary artists gathered for an Opening Reception to mark the historic moment on the National Mall. The event was joined by National Park Service Director “Chuck” Sams III, who remarked that “Beyond Granite is groundbreaking and it's significant in the work to bring new stories and new perspectives to the National Mall so that more people who visit, feel, seen, feel heard, and feel a sense of belonging. “
