Author, activist and star of ABC's The Good Doctor Hill Harper served as the evening's emcee under the tent at Constitution Gardens. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Honorary Chair of the BALL for THE MALL, took to the stage and remarked that the National Mall is "a gift to the millions of Americans who journey to this place to remember our past, celebrate our present, and see themselves in our future."
National Mall and Memorial Parks Superintendent Jeff Reinbold spoke about the 15-year partnership between the Trust and the National Park Service, which we are building on as we gear up for the 250th anniversary of American independence and a year-long celebration on the National Mall.
Former honoree and patriotic philanthropist David M. Rubenstein presented the Trust's History, Heroes & Hope Award to German Ambassador to the U.S. Emily Haber and Founder and CEO of Salamander Hotels and Resorts Sheila Johnson. Both of our honorees shared moving remarks about what inspired them to lead two important restoration projects on the National Mall—the German-American Friendship Garden and the new U.S. Park Police Horse Stables and Education Center, respectively.
