PREVIEW: "March On" Podcast Engages with History on the National Mall

UPDATE: The first installation of March On is now live! Don’t miss March On: RUSTIN, a collaboration between the Trust for the National Mall and Netflix's RUSTIN, providing listeners with an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which cemented the National Mall's role as America’s Civic Stage.

While we pause to reflect ahead of the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington in 2023, the Trust is honored to be working with its partners and supporters to create a new March On Podcast and Walking Tour to bring the stories behind the historic march to life. This new programming will share personal stories and moving moments and memories with visitors listening on the National Mall, as well as people and students tuning in virtually from around the world. On the 59th anniversary of the March on August 28, 2022, the Trust unveiled a preview of this upcoming work, which will enrich civics education curriculums and promote a deeper understanding of the role the National Mall plays as America’s Civic Stage. advancing free speech.

The Trust is working to create the March On Podcast, which will feature impactful stories of everyday heroism during the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the watershed event organized by Bayard Rustin and A. Philip Randolph where more than 250,000 people converged on America’s Civic Stage to call for equal opportunity, equal rights and freedom for all. Through March On, the Trust is developing content, curriculum and educational timelines relating to free speech and civic engagement on the National Mall spanning from 1894 to the present.
