Each year, 25 million people– Americans and visitors from all over the world –
walk the National Mall, pause to take in its profound symbols, and ultimately
come to appreciate what our nation represents. There is no other place in
the United States that celebrates democracy, freedom of speech, leadership
and heroism like the National Mall. There are the timeless symbols,
expansive green lawns and inspiring monuments celebrating our nation's
rich history. And there are the powerful expressions of human remembrance and protest.
