National Mall Plan Created

  • National Mall Plan Created - In 2006 the National Park Service prepared a plan to envision and define the future of the National Mall.
  • Olmstead Lights Retrofitted - Olmstead Lights are retrofitted with LED light bulb through donations by Osram Sylvania and Pepco.
  • Coca-Cola Recycling Plan - In 2009, The Coca-Cola Company developed a recycling program for the National Mall which includes in park signs and Metro ads highlighting the importance of recycling.
  • Appropriations Act - In 2011, Congress enacted the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2012, which transferred to the Architect of the Capitol the area of Union Square.
  • Turf Restoration Phase I Completed - Through the work of the Trust for the National Mall, the turf panels from 3rd to 6th streets were revitalized and completed in 2012.
  • Turf Restoration Phase II - The turf will be revitalized to provide a green, beautiful expanse of land for the thousand plus events that occur there. The restoration of the turf panels from 7th to 14th Streets will be completed over the next few years.
